Lip Fillers 101: Everything You Need to Know Before Taking the Plunge

The Beginners Guide to Lip Filler

Lip Fillers have been all the craze for over a decade now! And with so many med spas out there, it’s hard to figure out where to go, what exactly you need to compliment your features, and most importantly who to trust. But don't worry, we’ve got you covered! In this blog post we will give you the ins and outs of what you need to know from the procedure itself to tools to picking the right provider for you!

What Are Lip Fillers?

Before we dive into the nitty gritty, let's cover some basics! Lip filler is a cosmetic procedure that involves injecting a gel-like substance into the lips to increase volume, hydration, definition, and can be used to address asymmetries. The most common filler material used for this is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps retain moisture and plumpness.

How to pick the right injector

It can be so overwhelming knowing who to pick, especially when scrolling through instagram and everyone seems to have good work posted. Here are several things to look for when searching for an injector - aka Injector Green Flags

  1. Does continuous training + education

  2. Before/After photos with consistent work

  3. Doesn’t look overfilled themselves

  4. Someone who is honest and not afraid to tell you no

  5. Does full facial balancing

  6. They match your aesthetic and vibe

Just because a place is cheap does not mean the quality is there. When it comes to your face the last thing we want to do is to go to a place just because it is cheap. Do your research, ask questions, and vet out the ones who are not in alignment with you and your goals. Your face is an investment and it's important to find someone who will respect your investment.

Consultation & Treatment

Now that we have picked the right injector, it's time to get a consultation! During your consultation the provider will go over a thorough assessment to talk over goals/concerns, assess your facial anatomy, and come up with a treatment plan that is tailored to you in order to give you the most natural looking results.

The treatment typically takes around 30 minutes to an hour to complete depending on each patient’s personal goals and anatomy. Before the injections, patients are typically numbed to minimize any discomfort during the treatment. You may experience some swelling and bruising immediately after the treatment but this should subside within a few days.

Post Treatment - Love it or hate it

After getting the treatment patients either love the juiciness right away or they immediately regret it and think “noooo….what have I done?!” It definitely can be shocking especially if it is your first time! But this is where the saying trust the process really comes into play. The lips will typically decrease about 30% at the two week mark. And patients who did have the initial regret end up loving their results and sometimes are already wanting more.

That’s a wrap!

Taking that next step into your lip filler journey can feel so daunting but with the right knowledge and provider to help guide you along the way, it doesn't have to be! Whatever your lip goals are, remember that your face is unique and beautiful and worth the investment.
