Treatment Guide

  • For the best results and to reduce bruising, schedule your treatment 2-3 weeks before any big event. Avoid the following medications known to thin the blood for at least one week before your procedure:

    - NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn, Aspirin); Tylenol is fine
    - Herbal supplements (Gingko, Ginseng, Green Tea, Vitamin E, fish oils)
    - Alcohol

Let us know if you're on chronic blood thinners like Coumadin or Lovenox. Quit smoking or using tobacco products two weeks prior to treatment, as they can affect blood flow and healing. Eat a diet rich in antioxidants and low in processed foods one week before. Stay well-hydrated and eat before your appointment for an easier blood draw. These steps ensure the best outcome and smoother recovery.

  • To reduce swelling and discomfort after your treatment, apply a cold pack or ice to the treated area(s) immediately. It's beneficial to ice intermittently. Consider taking Arnica supplements to help with bruising and swelling. Keep your head elevated above your heart for at least 4 hours post-procedure. Avoid massaging or manipulating the injected area. For healing assistance, you may apply over-the-counter antibiotic ointment and/or hydrocortisone 1% topically.

  • Results from PRP/PRFM typically become noticeable around 4 to 6 weeks post-treatment, as collagen stimulation, cell growth, and tissue repair take time. Initial swelling and bruising are normal and should diminish within a few days. For optimal results, a series of 3 or 6 treatments spaced out 4 to 6 weeks apart is recommended.

  • PRP/PRFM treatments typically provide results lasting between 6 months to a year. However, outcomes vary depending on the patient, treatment area, and quality of PRP/PRFM used. Annual maintenance sessions are recommended to sustain optimal results. Once treatment goals are achieved, single sessions of PRP/PRFM may suffice without the need for additional series.

  • Do not perform strenuous exercise immediately after your treatment. You can resume all normal activities the next day. Avoid facials or excessive heat after your treatment, such as saunas or steam rooms. Feel free to shower and go about most other regular daily activities. Avoid use of retinol/ retinoid and AHA’s/ BHA’s. A gentle cleanser and simple skin care routine without exfoliants should be used during the first post treatment.

  • Swelling and bruising is expected, however not everyone experiences the same type of downtime. Some patients don’t experience any downtime while others may have prolonged swelling or bruising for a couple weeks. Any tiny bumps or needle marks go away within a few days as it settles. Bruises or residual marks may be covered with makeup, but please wait for 24 hours and use a gentle touch to avoid rubbing the treated area. If swelling is severe and/or are experiencing prolonged pain, please contact us immediately.

  • If you have had cold sores or oral herpetic infection in the past, any treatment to your face can trigger reactivation. We recommend taking an antiviral medication such as Acyclovir in advance of your treatment and for several days afterward to reduce this risk. If this applies to you, please discuss it with your provider.

  • Please schedule your follow-up visit for 3-4 weeks from your treatment date to ensure the best results. It is recommended to do a series of 3 or 6 treatments spaced out 4 to 6 weeks apart for optimal results. After completion of the series, a 6 month maintenance appointment will be scheduled during your treatment.
